PrintOpportunity to respond to Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu

Word and images are only just arriving from the stricken islands of Vanuatu, struck last weekend by Category 5 Cyclone Pam – and this in the wake of an earthquake and a volcano eruption in the last two weeks. The UCC’s Executive for Disaster Ministries, Zachary Wolgemuth, has issued a call for aid. “This is truly a devastating blow to a small impoverished nation,” he said. “I’m unaware of an event, in my lifetime, where nearly an entire nation has effectively been destroyed by such a powerful storm. We are continuing to see very strong unpredictable storms and weather. Not only is it imperative that we respond to this event but it is also time we take a look at our lives and daily habits and the impact we are making on climate change.”
