What is the relationship between our Christian heritage and our food? Drawing on Jesus’ story and the rituals of the Christian faith, we will examine together different aspects of our lives with food. We will seek to apply our Christian faith in holistic and healthy ways, even preparing food, and reflecting together on values of justice that shape our every day habits.

Join us for seven weeks of learning and growing together in faith, around the table together, exploring the health of our bodies, the access others have to food, the health of the earth, and the ways we use food to extend hospitality

Led by Dianne Sprague with the Rev. Nancy McLaren.

Just Eating? takes place 7 Sundays, after worship (approximately 11:30 am):  January 24 to March 6.

Making Sense of the Bible by Adam Hamilton

Bible 101: Making Sense of the Bible

How and when was the Bible written? Who decided which books made it into the scriptures and why? How literally should we read it? Is the Bible ever wrong? These are honest questions people all across the spectrum ask about the collection of writings called the Bible that we Christians use as holy scripture.

This six-session series “Bible 101: Making Sense of the Bible” will invite you into an honest conversation about questions like these and more. Making use of the book Making Sense of the Bible: Rediscovering the Power of Scripture Today by Adam Hamilton, we’ll seek to explore and unpack our questions about the Bible and what it is… but more importantly, we’ll hopefully seek after a deeper appreciation of the Bible so that we might hear God speak through it and find its words to be life-changing and life-giving.

Co-facilitated by Lynn Brown and Kate Alexander.  Minimum enrollment of 6, maximum of 10.  Course involves readings outside of sessions, including advance reading before first session.  Optional donation of $20 will reimburse for your copy of the book, which is provided free-of-charge.  This course is part of our Pilgrim Prep Core Curriculum.

Bible 101 takes place Sundays, January 24 through February 28, as our 9:00 am ‘Adult Forum’ adult Sunday School class.  It will be held in the SCC Library (1st floor of the CE Wing of the Parish House complex)

Thielen Whats the Least I can BelieveFaith 101: What’s the Least I Can Believe and Still Be a Christian?

Christians don’t need to believe that sinners will be “left behind” to burn in hell or that it’s heresy to believe in evolution. And while we must always take the Bible seriously, we don’t always have to take it literally. At the same time, Christians do need to believe in Jesus—his life, his teachings, his death and resurrection, his vision for the world. Those beliefs provide promising answers to life’s most profound questions, including: Where is God? What matters most? What brings fulfillment? What about suffering? Is there hope?

In this seven-session series, participants will explore together with Pastor Matt some of the core centers of our faith around which we gather as Christians. Making use of the book What’s the Least I can Believe and Still Be a Christian: A Guide to What Matters Most by Martin Thielen, we’ll seek grounding in the key touch points of Christian theology and belief as a strengthener for our own faith and a foundation for further explorations.

Led by the Rev. Matthew Emery.  Minimum enrollment of 6, maximum of 10.  Course involves readings outside of sessions.  Optional donation of $20 will reimburse for your copy of the book, which is provided free-of-charge.  This course is part of our Pilgrim Prep Core Curriculum.

Faith 101 takes place 7 Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm on January 27, February 3, February 17, February 24, March 2, March 9, and March 23.  It will be held in the SCC Library (1st floor of the CE Wing of the Parish House complex)
