Reaching Out From Outreach

Categories: Carillon Newsletter,News,ReachingOut

A busy October is beginning to take shape for Out Reach. There are many opportunities for you to get involved. On Saturday October 6, SCCUCONN will be volunteering at the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic. There they will prepare and serve a delicious meal of baked chicken, green beans, various salads (Rich Cowles’ famous pasta salad for sure) and desserts.

We will be having the special offering of Neighbors in Need sometime during the month. Please watch for in it in the upcoming bulletins.

At our last food in-gathering in June, we started a new tradition. We invited the people to come and “shop” for the food they desired and needed. About 10 families came and took advantage of this and were pleased they had the choice of their food. We still delivered to about 10 more households in which we packed for them. Instead of doing the food in-gatherings four times a year around the holidays, we will now be doing them 5-6 times in a year every other month with the next one happening on Saturday, October 20th from 9:30-11:30. Jane Joesten will be looking for volunteers for this event. Also food and cash donations are greatly appreciated throughout the whole year. UCONN will also be providing a monetary contribution to help keep the pantry filled for students who live off campus and may be in need of food. Happy Fall .
