The media center in the library was made possible by the Metzgar Family in honor of Larry Metzgar’s passing. Eileen, his wife, and their family wished to do something in his memory and Larry used to attend the C.A.F.E. Storrs gatherings each week in the library. Conversations led to the decision to have the beautiful cabinet constructed to house a good sized monitor. This decision opened up opportunities for electronic presentations and white boards and large paper tablets for writing. Away with the easels!

Pastor Matt has been instrumental in helping to bring electronics into the library room. So, C.A.F.E. Storrs, New Member forums, Advent and Lenten discussion groups have successfully integrated the use of the equipment into the deliberations.

Pastor Matt issued an invitation to the congregation to “attend” “our” Kate Alexander’s graduation from the Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS) on Friday, May 17th.

Kate experienced the call to ministry while attending SCC. She has been the recipient of the Whitney Ministerial student funds which is administered by a group of members of the church. Her graduation was a wonderful opportunity to bring people together to share and enjoy such an event. Just think of the future opportunities that really don’t have to be religiously connected except to bring people together in fellowship that are available to us! Three of us attended the graduation and wished there were more to enjoy this event. Pastor Matt was able to enlighten us on the speakers, the church and its history, and more information on the seminary as CTS is “his” school, too. That made the experience more enjoyable! So thank you once again, Eileen Metzgar and family for your contribution to the library and programming at SCC.

Before Larry passed, he completed the book, Atlantic City Memories, and Beyond. Larry describes his book in his autographed copy to the library. It reads, “Seventy-five years’ worth of mostly Jersey grown vignettes – with a little “tongue in cheek” mixed in.” Read and enjoy!
