UCC UConn is a student run
organization dedicated to keeping UConn students involved with the UCC
through community service and programs. We are an official University of
Connecticut group, and are associated with the Storrs Congregational
Church, UCC. Our group was formed in November 2005.
Right now, UCC UConn is currently
looking into moving around our weekly gathering. It has been on Sunday
evenings from 6-7pm, but with a low turnout, and many people who express
interest but can not make it, we hope to move it to an evening time slot
during the week, possibly at an on-campus location such as the Student
Union. Once we have the meeting times figured out, we'll make sure to post
them here. You can also contact us for more information.
Our weekly gathering has consisted
of either watching a Nooma video, and then discussing it, or talking about
a certain topic. We also have food and drinks available, and use some time
to just have an open conversation about whatever is on our minds at that
time.
While not very consistent at the
moment, we typically have a monthly dinner hosted by a member or family of
the Storrs Congregational Church. These dinners are open to all students
at UConn, and are free to attend.
UCC UConn also participates in an
Alternative Spring Break Mission Trip every
March to help with Hurricane Relief. Our trips have included Port
Charlotte, FL in 2006 to help with Hurricane Charlie relief, and to
Slidell, La in 2007-2009 to help with Hurricane Katrina/Rita relief. For
our 2010 trip, we have decided to move over to Texas City, TX, where we
will be helping with Hurricane Ike relief. Please click on the
Mission Trip link to learn about our trips
and what they involve.
