Music Ministry

Sing to the Lord a new song…

Choir and organ on Easter Sundayl.Music Ministry at Storrs Congregational

Enlivening our spirits and moving our souls, music is at the heart of a worship experience that, together with the Word and the Sacraments, provides a genuine opportunity to encounter the holy.  Our repertoire features the finest sacred organ, choral, vocal, and instrumental music from many periods and Christian traditions, including contemporary music from around the world.  Our choices are diverse and broad, reflecting our the diversity of community even as they honor the rich traditions and heritage of this historic church.  Our congregation lifts its joyful voices in singing at every worship service and we take pride in the number of congregants who list music in worship as one of the reasons they became a part of the Storrs Congregational Church UCC community.

Music is not worshiped here, but it truly empowers the worship experience. While no one can define how music transforms our communal worship life, no one can deny that it happens. Whether it is the quietest chant, or most triumphant anthem, music can do what ordinary words remain powerless to do: it reaches deep into our soul and moves us.  It helps connect us with the divine. It stirs our souls and lifts us out of ourselves to see God. Its theology—expressed in lyric and melody—informs and shapes us as Christians. Through musical expression we are invited to serenade the God whose praises echo through the silent music of all creation.

Get involved…

You are welcome and invited to become a part of our music ministries!  We are always excited to have new members in our choral ensembles, among our handbell players, and included with the instrumentalists we draw upon as we worship God together.  Whether you are in the senior class or the senior citizenry… whether your abilities are professional or primitive… whether your interests are Bach or the Beatles…  there’s a place for you!
