This Easter Festival of Lessons and Carols was created by Reverend Richard Tatlock who also wrote the Order of Service for Christmas Lessons and Carols that is broadcast from King’s College, Cambridge, England on Christmas Eve. In the mid 1950’s the British Broadcasting Corporation asked Rev. Tatlock to create a similar liturgy for Eastertide. The text and selection of scripture readings from his 1962 edition of the Order of Service is what we are using for our service with the Bidding Prayer and closing Blessing updated to reflect our more contemporary American language. The Lessons are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, our current pew bible.

We are grateful to Bethesda Episcopal Church, Saratoga Springs, New York for the inspiration to offer an Eastertide Festival of Lessons and Carols and for some of the Hymn and Carol selections heard during our service. We are blessed to have a dedicated group of choral singers, choral scholars and University of Connecticut students who have eschewed the normal post-Easter break to bring us this Festival of readings and music. The Worship team has put together liturgists and readers for which we are most grateful. Rev. Lois Happe will preside over Communion.

The service is offered in person and over Zoom. You are encouraged to join us live to enjoy the best experience and to participate in the joyous singing of Easter hymns.
