UCC UConn is a student-run organization dedicated to keeping UConn students involved with the United Church of Christ through community service and programs.  We are an official registered student organization with the University of Connected, and we are associated with the Storrs Congregational Church UCC.  Our group was formed in November 2005.

In UCC UConn, much of our efforts are focused toward an Alternative Spring Break Service-Mission Trip experience each March to engage in some form of disaster relief ministry.  Past trips have included:

  • Port Charlotte FL in 2006 (Hurricane Charlie)
  • Slidell LA (greater New Orleans area) in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011 (Hurricanes Katrina and Rita)
  • Texas City TX in 2010 (Hurricane Ike)
  • Tuscaloosa AL in 2012 (tornadoes)
  • Lake Charles LA in 2013 (longer-term Hurricane Rita recovery)
  • Joplin MO in 2014 (tornadoes)

Throughout the year leading up to the trip, we engage in a number of activities to help prepare and raise funds toward the trip, and following the trip each year, we lead one of the Sunday worship services at Storrs Congregational as a way to share our experiences.

UCC UConn participants and leadership also form a core of UConn students visible and active in the overall life of Storrs Congregational Church UCC.  Our presence and visibility helps contribute to Storrs Congregational’s ministry of welcome and connection-building with university students.
