Our SCC Visioning Process: The Beginning
On Sunday, January 12th, 2025, our congregation was introduced to Rev. Paul Nickerson, our guide along the path, who preached on “A Breathtaking Vision”. Rev. Paul stayed for a Second Hour to share the visioning process and answer questions.

Our SCC Mission reminds us: “We share in God’s love by growing in faith, courageously seeking justice, and generously caring for all people.” How is God calling us to this mission in this new season together?
May the Visioning Process guide our way.
December, 2025:
Vision Team hears your stories about the SCC mission in your lives:
“We share in God’s love by growing in faith, courageously seeking justice, and generously caring for all people”
A heartfelt Thank You to all who told their story after church last month!
Everyone we talked with had a unique SCC journey to share, and we treasured hearing each one. Some recurring themes about “sharing in God’s love by growing in faith” include the beautiful worship music, small group and Bible study sessions, special activities during Advent and Lent, and messages from the pulpit that connect us with God, one other, and to the world. Some of the many ways we heard that SCC has “courageously sought justice” over the years include the Food Pantry, the Quiet Corner Refugee Resettlement program, Prison outreach activities, and helping to found Windham Area Interfaith Ministries (WAIM). Recognition as an Open and Affirming and Just Peace church, as well as our current work toward A2A credentialing are clear messages about SCC’s commitment to justice. “Generously caring for all people” stories at SCC abound. They included many of the aforementioned activities, UCONN student outreach, and caring ministries. We heard many stories of people pitching in during times of personal crisis, and we witnessed deep connections within the SCC family. SCC’s focus on people who are socially marginalized, or live with spiritual, social, physical &/or emotional challenges was noted as evidence of “generously caring for all people.” We heard gratitude for SCC’s open, judgement-free space where all are truly welcomed with open arms, and an amazing appreciation for how SCC’s mission has come alive over the years.
Every person in the SCC community has a tale to tell. We are still gathering these stories, and you can email us or use the forms located near the Vision Team display in the Lounge if you’d like to share more. These stories, along with the Scripture studies, prayers, and information we’ve gathered provide the foundation for our next step. Next, we’ll begin to think of SCC’s future and dream about ways that the SCC mission can turn into actions. Stay tuned for more information, as the VT wants to hear
your dreams as well as your stories.
With Gratitude,
The Vision Team

“…But walking, which leads to seeing, now that’s something. That’s the invitation for every one of us today, and everyday, in every conversation, interaction, event, and moment: to walk, not run. And in doing so, to see a whole world right here within this one.”
from “Walk, Don’t Run” ~Rob Bell
