Around the Board Table

On October 23 the Governing Board’s Finance-and-Administration Committee met with representatives of the Women’s Fellowship to discuss integration of the Women’s Fellowship programs, teams, and assets into the Storrs Congregational Church’s governance and ministries.  Following the departure of the Women’s Fellowship representatives, the Committee finalized a draft 2019 budget for presentation to the Congregation at a November 17 Budget Forum.  The budget includes $6,000 of anticipated revenues and $3,500 of supplemental expenditures which have been part of the Women’s Fellowship operating budget in the past.

At its November 13 meeting the Governing Board:

  • Approved the establishment of a Women’s Fellowship Legacy Fund and the establishment of a committee of three women of the church to serve as trustees of the Fund. The 2018-2020 trustees will be appointed at the Board’s December 2018 meeting.  In subsequent years the Governing Board will appoint three women of the church each January to serve as trustees of the Fund.  The duty of the Committee will be to oversee the use of the Fund to further the programs of the Storrs Congregational Church as it serves the cause of Christ in the community and throughout the world.
  • Approved a Memorandum of Agreement between the Storrs Congregational Church and the Storrs Congregational Church Women’s Fellowship Concerning the Women’s Fellowship Legacy Fund.

In addition, the Board:

  • On recommendation of the Finance-and-Administration Committee, established a policy setting the minimum capital amount for establishing a new endowment fund as $10,000.
  • Reaffirmed an e-mail vote taken to authorize $1,950 plus the cost of freight to replace the compressor in the True model T-49 refrigerator in the upstairs kitchen.

The Board continued work on a new Mission Statement (what we do as a church) for future adoption by the Congregation.  Our current plan is to engage the Congregation in conversation around the church’s mission and purpose in December.”
