All Are Welcome!

Wednesday, October 24, 2018 (Note the switch to Wednesday!)
11:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Parish House Auditorium

Please join us starting at 11:15 Wednesday, October 24, 2018 to enjoy hospitality, coffee and tea and an opportunity to “meet and greet” our Parish Piecers who will show you some of their favorite quilts — not those for sale in our quilting ministry, but those made or owned by themselves.

A light, noon lunch including salads, along with an assortment of sandwiches and dessert options will be served.  We will accept a free will donation to assist with food costs.

Starting about 12:45 Mary Lake will present a program on her own sampler quilt based on the book Hidden in Plain View, A Secret Story Of Quilts And The Underground Railroad by authors Jacqueline Tobin and Historian Scholar Raymond G. Dobard, PhD.  This book explained for the first time how enslaved men and women encoded messages within quilt patterns that helped fugitives navigate their escape along the Underground Railroad.  Each particular pattern is part of the Quilt Code, used to conceal and yet reveal means of escape, a mixture of African encoding traditions and American quilt making traditions.  Mary will share her intrigue with the Quilt Code and set aside Q & A time.  During our 2018 program year, our first as a Just Peace Church, this topic seems especially appropriate.  Around 1:30 we will close with a universal prayer of gratitude for our time together.

Mark your calendars, and plan to join us!  Let us know by signing up on Sundays after worship or by calling the church office weekdays at 860 429-9382.  Invite neighbors and friends of any age, gender, ethnic or religious background to join us.  For easier access to parking, car pool and arrive by 11:15, or let us know if we can assist you with a ride to this elevator-accessible event.
