If you’ve ever looked in the upstairs freezer or the one in Room 201 on any day but Thursday and Friday, you’ve probably noticed that it is packed with breads, cakes and pastry goods.
Through the generosity of the Storrs Price Chopper store, baked goods nearing their expiration date are picked up and stored by church members of the Bread Ministry Team.
Every other Thursday, when the FoodShare truck pulls into the senior housing complex off South Eagleville Road., SCC sets up their “Bread Ministry” tables to disperse the goods to those in need. Around 80 individuals have previously turned out to accept the food donations, but lately the number has exceeded 100. Our thanks to the Bread Ministry volunteers involved in the various facets of this much appreciated operation.
In addition, perfectly useable but unsaleable fruit and vegetables are also donated by Price Chopper and handed out those Thursdays or delivered to the Windham Soup Kitchen. If you are interested in donating some time to this outreach program, please contact Deborah at sccoffice@storrscongchurch.org
