Our Food Pantry has become a very popular topic in the UConn Student Community. Did you know that there are students that attend UConn that do not have enough food to eat on a daily basis? Or that some students that live off campus are choosing between paying for gas to get to class and food for their stomachs? It may be hard to believe but it is true.
In the next few months you should expect to see a significant increase in the usage of our Food Pantry because the students are in need and the word is out that SCC is a place that can help.
In addition to adding items to the Food Pantry, here are some ways that you can help get the community involved.
Tell your family, friends and neighbors about the Food Pantry.
Offer to bring neighborhood donations to the Church.
Invite organizations you are involved with to consider holding a “canned food” or “socks for shelters” drive. SCC can make sure their collections get to the people that need them.
Here are some items that are always needed:
- Cereal (hot or cold)
- Peanut Butter
- Jam & Jelly
- Canned Pasta Dinners
- Canned chicken & Canned meats
- Stews
- Corned Beef Hash
- Mayonnaise
- Cooking Oil (vegetable or Olive)
- Canned Fruit (unsweetened)
- Ramen Noodles
You can bring your contributions to the Parish House and leave them in the Food Pantry or bring them to Worship and leave them in the grocery cart and we’ll take care of shelving the items.
