Building & Grounds Weekend Workdays

Twice each year a group of SCC members devote time to beautification and improvements of our buildings and grounds.  I must say it never ceases to amaze me: the diligence shown by our volunteers, no matter how small or great their contributions of time and effort.  Twenty-four individuals were involved in a variety of projects, the results of which will be obvious to even a casual observer.

Consider the following accomplishments completed on the October 19th & 20th workdays:

  • The sewing room was relocated to room 207 with a transfer of all equipment and supplies
  • a new sewing machine carrying cart was assembled
  • air conditioners were removed and stored
  • windows “winterized”
  • the courtyard, church lawn and play area were cleared of leaves and sticks (14 full bags)
  • grassy areas on the church property were fertilized
  • windows were installed in the library doors for “safe church” compliance
  • a fallen tree at the Wormwood Hill property was cut up restoring drive-in accessibility
  • ruts on the 195 side of the Meeting House were filled and seeded
  • a defective faucet in the upstairs kitchen was removed and replaced
  • a heavily damaged wall in the copy room was repaired and readied for painting
  • a new bulletin board was mounted in the church office
  • improved security lighting was installed outside the Parish House and Education Wing
  • garden beds were prepared for the winter
  • gutters on the Chapel were cleaned out
  • plexiglass sign holders were installed in different locations throughout the Parish House.

Many thanks to Antonio Aguilera, Peter Baldwin, Bob Berube, Linda Blum, Duffy & Laurie Brookes, Lynn & Marge Brown, Marsha Creese, Lois Demurjian, Sally Doyen, Bryan Huey, Cathy Jeffers, Jane & Ray Joesten, Armand Johnson, Bryan & Chase (our youngest volunteer) Klimkiewicz, Jamie & Wes Lang-Rodean, Peter Latincsics, Dick & Pam Roberts and Nancy Rucker for contributing to this highly successful event.
