“Disability Visibility: First Person Stories from the Twenty First Century”

This book was selected to complement the SCC A2A project. It is a collection of stories, essays, and poems from disabled authors about what it means to be disabled. Contributors are people with intellectual, psychiatric, and sensory disabilities, and their stories are about being Black and disabled, being LGBTQ+ and disabled, and how religious practices can cause conflict with disability. Many topics are explored, such as medical trauma, personal relationships, career success, family dysfunction, art, activism, history, and politics. Content notes at the beginning of each piece help the reader choose whether they want to read the story. The book may help us think critically and seriously about disability in our community.

Availability: SCC Library, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, local libraries, Library Connection, audiobook, e-book. Mansfield Library has 2 paperback copies.
